What Is Pageview-Based CMP Pricing?

2026-10-30 · 7 min read · CookieTrace

They do not have to.

Why should consent costs grow when website traffic grows?

They do not have to. In a pageview-priced CMP contract, usage may affect a tier or an overage; in other models it may not. Pageview-based pricing means a plan is tied to counted page loads during a defined billing period. Read the counting rules before comparing the advertised price.

Pageviews, sessions, visitors and subpages are different

A pageview is a page-load event. A session groups interactions according to the measuring tool’s rules. A visitor is an identifier-based audience measure, not necessarily one identifiable person. A subpage is a distinct page or URL in a site inventory. A site with few pages can still generate many pageviews.

A documented example, not a rule for all CMPs

CookieYes states that it registers a pageview when a page containing its code loads, including reloads and regardless of banner interaction; its documentation describes filtering known bot traffic. Cookiebot’s published Premium Lite description states that it has no traffic limitation and its eligibility uses subpages. Check the current product and contract; analytics counters can differ from billing counters.

Campaign planning: an illustrative scenario

Suppose a visitor loads five pages in one browsing session: that can produce five pageviews, not five sessions. A campaign can increase billable events without adding a new domain. This is a conceptual example, not a CookieTrace invoice or a measured cost increase; the actual charge depends on the vendor’s threshold and terms.

Questions before a traffic-based quote

Get written answers before running a campaign.

  • What triggers a billable event: every load, reload, route change or banner display?
  • Are known bots, test sites and internal traffic excluded, and by which rules?
  • When does the counter reset and where can the billing count be inspected?
  • What happens at the limit: notification, an upgrade, extra charge or suspension?
  • Are usage and domain allowances shared across the portfolio or per site?
  • How are currency, tax and renewal changes handled?

CookieTrace: separate traffic growth from subscription scope

CookieTrace does not bill by pageviews. Domain scope and plan features determine the subscription; internal implementation and governance work still need a budget. Pro: 39 USD/month, up to 10 domains. Premium: 79 USD/month, up to 100 domains; everything in Pro, including Deep Scan and tracker request blocking. Enterprise: custom pricing, unlimited domains, SLA, dedicated support and custom DPA. A 14-day trial is available; no permanent free plan.

Do not remove governance from the budget

Default EU hosting (Frankfurt). Confirm the agreed region and processing chain in your DPA. Changing the pricing metric does not remove implementation, tracker review or legal assessment. Consent Mode v2 signalling is a technical capability, not a compliance guarantee. Review technical coverage, data governance and administration alongside price.

Short answer

Are all CMPs priced by pageview?

No. Suppliers may use pageviews, subpages, domains or a negotiated scope. Compare the documented unit and contract rather than assuming a universal model.

Does CookieTrace charge more when traffic grows?

CookieTrace does not bill by pageviews. Domain scope and plan features determine the subscription; internal implementation and governance work still need a budget.

Is CookieTrace permanently free?

No. Evaluation uses a 14-day trial; paid plans follow. Enterprise needs a quote.

What should procurement confirm in a quote?

Confirm domain definitions, billed usage, overage conditions, implementation responsibilities, support, currency, taxes and renewal terms.

Where is CookieTrace data hosted?

Default EU hosting (Frankfurt). Confirm the agreed region and processing chain in your DPA.
